MY CURRENT SKINCARE ROUTINE: how I keep acne away

As you are all aware of for three years I struggled with acne, last year was the worst my skin had ever been thankfully I no longer suffer from acne I occasionally get the odd breakout during that time of the month. My whole ordeal with acne began when I had the contraceptive implant. I didn't react well to it and the hormonal change it put my body through resulted in acne which in some ways was like my body saying "wtf is happening why is our cycle screwed up!?" Lol
The contraceptive implant doesn't effect everyone in the same way our bodies all work and react to things differently mine was just being stubborn and didn't want to cooperate. My friend had also had the implant and she had no troubles with it so I wouldn't say do not have the contraceptive implant, in fact it is easier to have but I found it painful to have removed. If you have a fear of needles just like myself, I wouldn't suggest getting it. Anyhow....

Now I have no more acne I do however, have some acne scarring which is fading but I wish it would fade quicker!!! I thought I would share my current skincare routine that has helped clear my post acne marks quicker and deals with those small outbreaks.

Morning routine:

I wet my face with warm water and apply The Body Shops Vitamin E Gentle Facial Wash onto my Olay Regenerist Megasonic Cleansing Brush the brush works the product into my skin I use the brush in small circular motions and focus it on my post acne marks as Vitamin E is great for speeding up the skins healing process. After a few minutes of working the product into my skin I rinse it off with warm water then gently pat my skin dry with a clean towel. Always pat the skin dry! As harsh rubbing can cause damage, the skin becomes sensitive after being cleansed. If you have acne harsh drying can cause irritation and inflame the acne!

Once my face is completely dry I use Nivea's Refreshing Toner, I apply the product onto a cotton pad and gently wipe evenly over my face. Toners do not need to be washed off! Using a toner is important to balance out the PhDs in your skin after cleansing, doing so prevents breakouts.

I allow the toner roughly two minutes to set and dry into my skin then I go ahead and use another product from The Body Shop's Vitamin E range. I apply evenly on to my face the Vitamin E Moister Cream. Using the cleanser and moisturizer from the same range will enhance it's effects.

Products used:

The Bodyshop Vitamin E Gentel Facial Wash- priced at £8.50 and can be purchased at The Body Shop store or online.

Olay Regenerist Megasonic Cleansing Brush- priced at £38 and can be purchased in most drugstores.

Nivea Refreshing Toner- £2 can be purchased at most supermarkets and drugstores.

Vitamin E Moister Cream- priced at £11 can be purchased at The Body Shop stores or online.

Removing makeup!:

I firmly believe that removing makeup sucessufully is a massive factor in maintaining clear skin. I remove my makeup using Johnson's Make Up Be Gone Wipes I use the Extra Sensitive ones as my skin is very sensitive. If you have acne I would recommend using wipes and washes made for sensitive skin as colors and fragrances may irritate and multiply the acne. I love these wipes they successfully remove my makeup and work well at removing eye makeup without drying out my skin!

Sometimes if I am wearing a heavy coverage makeup (which is rare) i will use the wipes then give my face a brief wash with Dove's Beauty Bar just to ensure all the makeup particles are removed.
Products used:

Johnson's Make Up Be Gone Wipes- priced at £3 can be purchased at most drug and supermarket stores.

Dove Beauty Bar- priced at 80p can be purchased in most supermarkets, chemists and drugstores.

Night routine:

Just like my morning routine I will dampen my face with warm water to open my pores and prepare my face for cleansing. I apply The Body Shop's Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser onto the Olay Megasonic Brush. Using the cleansing brush I work the tea tree cleanser in small circular motions for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly off with warm water. Tea tree is perfect for clearing imperfections and giving the skin a deep clean! I reccomend this product to those with mild acne. It has succeeded in reducing my breakouts and eliminating them at a faster pace.

Once again I use my Nivea Refreshing Toner and apply with a cotton pad gently onto my face. Remember do not rinse a toner off unless it is instructed to do so. Once the toner is dry I apply Organic Surge's Overnight Sensation Night Cream evenly onto my face. What I like about this brand is all their products are free from harsh chemicals and they only use natural ingredients just like The Body Shop. Harsh chemicals can ruin and wash out your complexion and can cause negative reactions to sensitive skin. The Organic Surge Overnight Sensation Night Cream assist the skin cells during it's repairing faze and can be used on all skin types and is great for re moisturizing the skin after cleansing.

If I have a few break outs I will directly treat the effected areas of an evening as the skin does most of it's repairing while we sleep. I will apply The Body Shop's Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion on to the effected areas and dab the product gently on. This lotion is fast and effective and works together with the Tea Tree Foaming Cleanser.
Products used:

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser- priced at £5 purchased at The Body Shop Store and Online.

Organic Surge Overnight Sensation Night Cream- priced at £11, purchased on Organic Surge site and can be found at Waitrose Supermarket.

The Body Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion- £3 can be purchased at The Body Shop store and online.

Weekly Routine:

Once a week I like to exfoliate my skin and eliminate dead skin cells. My favorite exfoliator at the moment is The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion. This exfoliator removes dead cells efficiently and improves skins texture and tone and doesn't dry the skin out! It is so easy to apply and feels soothing on the skin. I prepare my skin by dampining my face with warm water I then apply the exfoliator evenly onto my face and using my hands gently rub in small circular motions for a few minutes then rinse thoroughly with warm water then pat dry with a clean towl. As mentioned before toning is important to do after washing your face and as usual I will use Nivea's Refreshing Toner.

Also once a week I will use a Dead Sea Purifying Clay Mask by Superdrug and apply it onto my face. I leave the mask on for fifteen minutes before using a hot wet cloth and gently wipe the product off.

Products used:

The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion- priced at £14 can be purchased at The Body Shop store and online.

Superdrug Dead Sea Purifying Clay Mask - priced at £1 purchased at Superdrug

Other methods I use to keep acne away:

Although I keep a good skin care regime, I also carry out other lifestyle methods that assist keeping my skin clear.

1. I drink at least 2-4 liters of water a day. Water is a great detoxiant for the skin and keeps it hydrated.

2. I excersise often. Simple excersises increase the blood flow under the skin. excersising makes the body sweat, sweating opens the pours and pushes out all the unwanted bacteria out of the skin.

3. I wash my pillow cases twice a week. Of a night we rest the sides of our faces on our pillows. Sweat, bacteria, oils and left over makeup transfer from our skin to the pillow cases which means the next few times we place our faces on the pillow these oils and bacterias will transfer back onto our skin. Washing your pillow cases regularly means you decrease the chance of transferring unwanted oils and dirt onto your skin.

4. Keeping my hair tied back of a night. When sleeping with your hair down your hair can rub against your face which means any oils in your hair or products are being rubbed into your skin. Putting your hair up during the night will prevent this.

The current condition of my skin:

I still breakout but only during my period. And when I do breakout it's only a small one and nowhere near the amount or serverity it was when I suffered from acne last year. The scarring that has been leftover did make me feel real down and depressed but keeping to all these simple and easy lifestyle changes and skin care routines I have noticed how dramatically they are fading! The scars are located on the sides of my face but are fading a lot quicker then I expected. I do believe my skin routine and lifestyle changes have played a big part during my skin healing  process.

Conclusion:

So that is my current skincare routine that I have been carrying out for the past six months, I am delighted with the results that I have been witnessing. All the products used are extracted from natural ingredients I try to avoid using harsh chemicals on my skin as said previously I do have sensitive skin therefore, using these types of chemicals could cause a negative reaction to my skin such as burning, irritation or breakouts. I personally find all the products I have listed affordable and can be easily purchased and are gentle enough to be used frequently as well as being compatible to most if not all skin types and combinations.

Xoxo
